Here are some signs of SPD in pre-schoolers. This is an educational guide to use when discussing your child with your heath professional or occupational therapist.

 

SPD symptoms for Preschoolers

  • Struggles with toilet training
  • Gets overwhelmed by noise, touch or smells
  • Unaware of being bumped or touched unless some force is being used
  • Seems slow to learn new tasks. Has difficulty with using crayons, drawing or fastening clothing
  • Is clumsy and awkward has difficulty moving to music or participating in games
  • Is in constant motion never sits still
  • Gets in others’ space a lot
  • Touches everything
  • Has difficulty participating in games, can be too aggressive or passive or withdrawn
  • Is consistently demanding, difficult to calm
  • Does not transition from one activity to another easily
  • Has mood changes and unexpected temper tantrums
  • Has poor posture and prefers sedentary games
  • It is difficult to understand their speech
  • Seems confused and finds it difficult to understand instructions
