Visual spatial learners are unique with specific learning strengths and weakness. They are strong visual learners.

Learning Styles Visual SpatialThese kids instantly understand maps, charts and diagrams. they would prefer to draw a story than write it. They focus on visuals rather than dialogue.

They are image and space smart. They think in pictures and often struggle with words and detail. They have sensitive nervous systems and find too much noise and stimulation exhausting. They are creative intelligent learners that need a calm environment for learning.

Because they are big picture learners they don’t seem to think logically and can feel out of step with the traditional school process.

Characteristics of the Spatial Visual Learner:

  • They enjoy complex ideas and tasks.
  • Can find simple step by step tasks difficult.
  • Has poor listening skills.
  • Finds it difficult to follow verbal instructions.
  • They need pictures or visual aids.
  • Has difficulty finishing school work.
  • Love lego, puzzles jigsaws and anything mechanical.
  • Struggle with spelling, timetables and handwriting.
  • Easily remembers direction or routes.
  • Feel tired or distracted in poor learning environments.

Visual Spatial learners learn holistically rather than step by step. They can struggle with the trial and error way of learning. School teaches part to whole which is called sequential learning which is the opposite way of learning for visual spatial learners. They often need tutoring to help in school.
